These units were'withdrawn' at the end of June, however in recents days it appears that updated 40mm information displays are being fitted to some units which should ensure continued use of these trains for the time being - this being the prime reason for their temporary withdrawal. **At the 11th hour, due to the extraordinary hot weather creating a tinder dry lineside, a steam ban was declared on the southern region of Network Rail. An immediate knock-on effect was that BR Standard 8P No. 71000 Duke of Gloucester was unable to be used to power Steam Dream's 'Sunny South Special' from Kensington Olympia to Weymouth. Deputising for the steam traction was a rather grubby pair of FM Rail Class 31s, Nos. 31602 and 31452. The train is pictured on 20 July passing Walton-on-Thames on its outbound journey.
